Ravi Zacharias was once asked what his first words to the Lord would be when he entered Heaven. Ravi said that he was not nearly as interested in what he was going to say as he was in what the Lord would have to say to him. He also said he was terrified of what God would say. This submitted servant of the Lord knew a type of holy fear that is a form of humility.
Read MoreI have developed some bad habits during the quarantine of 2020. At the beginning of this long siege of isolation, I realized that my old patterns and lifestyle had to go out the window and that I had to be more flexible, but I have taken it too far.

Read MoreWe are not fundamentally free; external circumstances are not in our hands, they are in God’s hands, the one thing in which we are free is in our personal relationship to God. We are not responsible for the circumstances we are in, but we are responsible for the way we allow those circumstances to affect us; we can either allow them to get on top of us, or we can allow them to transform us into what God wants us to be.
Oswald Chambers, Conformed to His Image, 354 L
Throughout the Bible, one story is played out over and over. Characters are placed in trying situations and are given choices to make about how to respond: Martha in her response to Mary, Lot when Abraham allows him to choose the land he wants, the rich young ruler when Jesus asks him to choose Him over all he holds dear and familiar, and I could go on. Right now, we are being asked to choose Him and to choose to respond to altered circumstances with an eye toward Kingdom Purposes. The question is not, “What will I do today?” The question is, “Lord, what would you have me do today?”

I have discovered a whole realm of new joys under quarantine. Just this week, the Lord showed me 6 ways to feel His pleasure and to experience His comfort and joy in a way that differs from my previous weeks in quarantine.
Read MoreI have been praying for a minister in Mount Pleasant this week who is of a different denomination and whom I have never met. People all over are doing things they would not have anticipated just a month ago. I would be interested in hearing from you in the comments panel about a number of things:
Read MoreWhy should you personally be concerned about false teaching if you are already a devoted, Bible-believing Christian? I want to share with you what the Bible says to you about how you should view the proliferation of almost-right-but-not-quite-accurate teaching out there. Like expert counterfeit, today’s false teaching can appear to be the real thing, with deadly consequences.

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight

Read MoreI tend to be most fascinated by people in the Bible who are least famous. I am a fan of Philip the Apostle. Philip was an imperfect man, and when you hear the term “giants of the faith,” he is not the first person you think of. I can relate to Philip.
Read MoreI love watching the Detroit Youth Choir singing their hearts out on television programs such as the Today Show or America’s Got Talent. These young people from the worst neighborhoods of Detroit set out to tell a different story of their beloved city than most people hear. Despite the poverty these young people live in, they tell a story about the wonderful people in their community and the joy they have in their circumstances. That joy is infectious. You want to listen to them. You want to join in.

Read MoreIn this current mode of thankfulness, I thought it might be fun to meditate on the little things God has done that make our lives so delightful. Yes, “in this world we will have trouble,” but we will also have moments when we take in His creation of breathtaking beauty that He formed for our mutual delight. We will have moments when we observe a lightning bug or a flock of geese with their unerring navigational skills or a drop of water under a microscope, and experience genuine awe.
Read MoreIt is a long story, but I am writing my Thanksgiving blog in mid-July because of a publishing deadline. I tried to wait until a bunch of wonderful things happened to me so I would be inspired to spontaneously give thanks and write a really upbeat blog. I wanted to be so bursting with thanksgiving that you would catch the overflow of my gratitude and the words would capture that type of joy when you just can’t stop saying, “Thank you, Lord!” I wanted this blog to be about a series of love touches God was giving to me so we could share as believers that wonderful camaraderie of saying together, “Look what the Lord did for me!” July has not been that kind of month.

Communication has changed so much since I was a child growing up in Texas in the ‘50s. If a phone call were very important to my mother, she would be sure not to accept any other calls all day as she waited for that special call.
