Jehovah Nissi
Today I am starting a series on the names of God. Each month, we will take just a moment to think on one name of God and what it means to us. These blogs will be extremely short for a purpose.
During Christmas, I was blessed several times to be around young professionals I have loved since they were babies. They are bright, successful, and very busy. I know they know the Lord, but unusually demanding career opportunities have put meditating on Him on the back burner. I decided to send them a brief description of a name of God each month to remind them of their birthright as a child of God. Feel free to send these to any young person you know who may be too busy to do a Bible study, but who might read a quick text.
Jehovah Nissi – The Lord is My Banner
From the moment you choose to be in relationship with God, you have His banner flying over you. Just like Columbus had Isabella’s flag flying over his mission to America and Alexander’s troops had his flags flying over them when they went into any battle, you are now covered by the banner of the Almighty God of the universe. The banner over you goes beyond protection; it is an advantage in any appointment, sensitive personal conversation, or spiritual battle you may find yourself in. You now have the advantage of His strength and don’t have to rely solely on your own abilities. Even leaders can benefit from the leadership of someone wiser and more farseeing than they, and God is a leader who has the unique ability to know the future. Remember as you go into any room that the banner of the very God of everything flies over you and sets you apart.
