The Peace of the Lord

I am praying God’s peace for you today. Whatever concerns you- your children, our nation, finances, health, anything- God’s peace abundantly and completely covers that need. His peace does not just barely cover it, but covers it luxuriously, deeply, and thoroughly. His peace is not stretched thin but is layer upon layer of mercy, grace, and tenderness for you, heaped up and overflowing. Put that concern under His dominion and let Him be your refuge from it. He is well able to take care of it now, tomorrow, and for the rest of your future.

Are you feeling as if you can’t quite get there right now to have God’s peace? I love this verse for you:

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7

This verse assures me that God understands I can’t grasp His peace or make sense of it. It tells me that He knows that when I look at the circumstances around me that seem discouraging, overwhelming, threatening, and insecure, that He is over that, on top of that , beyond that. Only He can give it to me as a gift. He transcends anything here on earth. Anything the enemy throws at us, He has already conquered it. John 16:33 says, “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

We may not see it with our limited vision or understanding, but anything that comes against us has been defeated. Our emotions may make us feel defeated, but that is a lie from the enemy. Emotions are untrustworthy and satan is a liar. Both are treacherous and both work against you.

Keep your gaze on the Lord and do not gaze at what rattles you or disturbs your peace. You gravitate toward what you gaze on. Isaiah 26:3 says, “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”

But the main way the Lord blesses us with peace is through the Holy Spirit. When Jesus was going to leave the earth, He comforted His disciples by telling them about this wonderful gift, The Comforter, who would be here by our side when times are difficult or tumultuous.  He said:

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.  John 14:26-27

I want to leave you with three more gifts for your greater peace.

The first is this admonition from Paul about how to live with peace in your heart when the world is swirling around you in an unpeaceful way:

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Colossians 3:15

As you go out today. I want to speak this benediction over you that Paul spoke over the Thessalonians:

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all. 2 Thessalonians 3:16

And finally, may you be blessed by this song named “The Peace of the Lord” by Babbie Mason:

Blessings in the name of Yahweh-Shalom! His name is peace!
