Prayer of Repentance and for Cleansing from Sin

Search me, oh God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. (Psalm 139:23-24)

Have mercy on me, oh God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion, blot out my transgressions. (Psalm 51:1)

Cleanse me from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)

I am so grateful you do not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is your love for those who fear you. As far as the east is from the west, so far have you removed our transgressions from us.  As a father has compassion on his children, so you, oh Lord, have compassion on those who fear you. Thank you for knowing how we are formed and for remembering we are dust. (Psalm 103:10-11.)

Our sins are like scarlet; please make them white as snow. They are red like crimson; please make them white as wool. (Isaiah 1:18)

We repent then, and turn to you, oh God, so that our sins may be wiped out so that you will send us a time of refreshing, which we desperately need individually and as a nation. (Acts 3:19)

Rescue us from the present evil age. (Galatians 1:4)

To Him who is able to keep us from stumbling and to present to you before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy—to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power, and authority through Jesus Christ, our Lord, before all ages, now and forever more. (Jude 1:24-25)

Amen.

Dear Ones,

I am sharing this prayer of repentance and my plea for cleansing of sin because it is the cry of my heart right now. I see nothing more important I can do as a United States citizen than to prepare my heart for the election, for conversations with neighbors and others about the Supreme Court appointment, for responding with truth and love to the unrest throughout our country, and for sharing the love Jesus has put in my heart for sisters and brothers of all belief systems, races, and nationalities. I am basing this prayer on Scripture because I want it to be an effective prayer. I truly want to repent, to be forgiven, and to live the love of Christ.

This morning, I had a different blog ready to post, but after seeking the Lord, this is the prayer He gave me to share instead.

God bless you as we walk through these perilous times that are revealing the dross in our hearts and are being used in our purification. Praise Him for wanting us to be whole again so that He can better minister to us.

Your sister,

Casey Hawley
